RANDBURG MEN

The cream of the crop of South Africa’s middle/long distance athletes will gather in Randburg on Sunday 4 September 2016 to crown a new Randburg Streetmile champion. The top class twenty two man field will be taken through the paces by the in-form Olympian Rynardt van Rensburg who ran a great 1min45sec33 personal best 800m at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The young Olympian will line up as one of the favourites for the title, but let’s consider the fact that the South African 1500m champion, a 2016 sub 4minute mile runner, the two-time EC Active Classic Shoot-out winner, multiple 2016 provincial cross champions and multiple national title holders will also have a say on the day. Jerry Motsua, Folavio Sehohle, Theodore Nothling, Jeromy Andreas, Rantso Mokopane and Pharson Magagane are just a few of the twenty-two athletes with big pedigrees.

Pedigrees, on race day however, will not benefit anyone as everything comes down to the shape on the day and the athletes currently showing top shape is: Kgalalelo Mathabatha (CGA), Tian Basson (AMP), Kabelo Mohlosi (AGN), Henry Makane (CGA), Marco Bucarizza (CGA), Rantso Mokopane (ANW), Jerry Motsau (ANW) and Tumisang Monnatlala (CGA). Tlou ‘the mighty elephant’ Seloba and Thabang Matiwane will most probably be the front-runners with the youngster Aphiwe Abasisa, 800m specialist Jabolane Ncamane and UJ’s Henry Makane. The surprise entry of the 400m specialist and EC classic 600m shoot-out winner Ranti Dikgale, though, might leave some athletes wondering, because he is strong, fast and might just surprise the group of long/middle distance specialists.

Jerry Motsau’s 3min56sce mile just a month ago makes him the man to beat and with Pharson Magagane, the first athlete in the history of the mile who ran four minutes flat, in the mix of things, we are in for some world class action. Theodore Nothling and Jeromy Andreas like watching the race from behind whilst the in-form Bucarizza and Makane go straight to the front and stick there as long as possible.

But whose tactics will reign supreme on September the 4 th ? Well, you will have to come and see for yourself, so come join us at the Randburg Central Sports Complex and witness the cream of the crop athletes in the country. See you there!
